TSI Engine
Volkswagen has been using the TSI engine for their cars for quite awhile, though this engine is not new in the car industry. Volkswagen started using the TSI engine in some of their cars like the Golf GT Sports, Golf Plus, Touran SE, Jetta and Passat CC. In Europe TSI engines are very welcome because vehicle tax there is base according to the size of the car’s engine. Meaning, a smaller engine implies lower tax rate. Thus when it is said to be coming in North America, many doubt it capability and that it only serve its purpose on lowering tax rate which is not applicable in North America.
This engine is a combination of supercharger and turbocharger, with a displacement of 1.4 liter that produces 170 bhp and uses 7.21/100 km with maximum power of 168 bhp at 6000 RMP. Thus a TSI engine is smaller yet is said to be of higher displacement and higher fuel economy. It is considered as the world’s first direct – injection petrol engine that comes with twin charging technology. Since it uses petrol it is quieter and has wider rev range but is fuel economy compare to diesel engines.
Cars with TSI engines cars are also considered hybrid cars for others because they are fuel efficient and less polluting. TSI engines are said to be more powerful, faster, more fuel efficient, less polluting, low maintenance, durable technology, more driving enjoyment. Despite its great benefits still many doubts these small engine that comes from Europe. As one would observe, bigger engines last longer, does this also imply the TSI engine which is a small engine. But VW among other companies realizes this and is striving for more economic fuel consumption gains in creative ways.
